World Record Countdown Begins

We have already secured two top line sponsors for the WRA teams, namely Tempest Sports and Mercian Hockey.

This event is taking place for 3 VERY GOOD REASONS

1 To raise money for Cancer Research UK
2 To set a Guinness World RecordsTM for the Longest Men's Outdoor Field Hockey Match
3 To have a fun festival weekend before the league season gets underway.

Would you like to be a Tempest Tiger or a Mercian Mercianary

We have already had an excellent initial interest from players wishing to become a World Record Holder. Consequently we have decided that as soon as we get 60 or so players names to go in the draw for the two teams we will close player applications. This is so not too many of those who apply will be disappointed. There is no point in accepting 200 applications when we can only use 32 players and invite another 12 to come and play in the festival as our guests and act as last minute replacements.

There is no entry charge to be in one of these WRA teams

All you need is stamina and determination and we hope we get applications from all levels of the game so that everyone can identify with the achievement. We hope we get applications from as many different clubs and regions as possible. Players will get a playing shirt to keep and a certificate of participation. The winning team will get the all important winners medals. All we ask of players is that they raise as much sponsorship as they can for Cancer Research UK from their club mates and contacts.

The 6's Festival

We feel it is important to attract supporters to the event to provide encouragement to the players when the going gets tough. What better way to do that than to run a festival alongside the marathon game and have a few beers in the process. We are fortunate to have secured the use of Highfields Sports Centre in Nottingham so that we can offer all the games on sand based astro. There will be games for Men's, Ladies and Mixed teams but we can only accommodate 12 teams in each group so don't delay your application. You will be guaranteed 7 matches over the weekend and you can opt to enter a knockout cup if you wish to. If the section is full when you apply teams will go on a reserve list and your deposit will be returned if you are unsuccessful. Teams that drop out after June 31st will lose their deposit but have the balance returned. The entry fee is just £120 a team or £10 per squad member is you have the maximum 12 player squad.
